What is Counselling & Psychotherapy?

The theoretical background of my counselling work is psychodynamic - the basic premise of this being that as well as me helping you to think about yourself, you will also be coming aware of aspects of yourself which you may not be consciously aware of. I also have an interest in, and training in, the humanistic approach which has more of a focus on your own personal growth and choice. So my therapy is very much integrative dependent upon the therapeutic work that is to be undertaken. At the heart of it all though is that it is about you - growing in awareness about yourself and looking at developing the ability to address areas of yourself and your life that you want to. It is important in counselling that you feel comfortable enough with the counsellor to enable a good therapeutic relationship to be built.

My background and interests are: Mental health; Depression; Coping with past abuse; General counselling where you may wish to make sense of yourself or your life; Smoking Cessation.

I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), and as such I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practices.
